Treat your Atari 800/800XL/65XE/130XE the way it was meant to, in the best picture quality available to it. Connect an Atari 8-Bit Computers (with the 5-pin DIN AV Connector) to either an S-Video Connector or Composite Video RCA. It also includes left and right audio connectors. Enjoy your Atari at it's best!
- Over 5 Feet in length
To connect your computer to a TV with HDMI, check out the Armor3 Composite AV to HDMI Adapter that will take the output from this cable and upscale the output and make it compatible with HDMI monitors!
NOTE: In earlier versions of the Atari 800XL, Atari didn't include the Chroma or Luminance connections. So in versions produced before August of 1984, this cable will not work. This can also be checked with the version of Atari BASIC (This would be listed as Rev C but not all Rev C versions support S-Video). Please also note that even though the 1200XL has the 5-Pin DIN connector, it is also lacking the proper Chroma and Luminance connections. Please confirm that your 800XL is compatible beforehand otherwise composite video can still be used.
Atari 800XL Mod - This website shows simple instructions on how to add Chrome/Luma output to your Atari 800XL. 8-Bit Classics will not be held liable for information provided by this external website or issues caused by this modification. Please do your own research beforehand.

This was a great upgrade for me, since I was still using RF to connect my 800XL to my television. Ordered this cable, connected it up, and was amazed how much sharper, and more colorful, the picture was. An unexpected bonus, the sound was noticeably clearer, too. Recommended!

I ordered this along with a couple other “retro” parts from other online stores (ebay and other places.) Comparatively, this part arrived in superior packaging, superior shipping packaging, and superior build quality to these other parts. My emails to 8bitclassic have been quickly (instantly) answered as well. I couldn’t be happier with my purchase.

I recently did a video upgrade to my 800XL. This cable allowed me to access the S-video signal without installing a dedicated S-video port. It’s nice to have such a crisp picture on an LCD screen! Many new screens do not have S-video ports so also having the composite signal makes it easy to hook up to almost any screen.

Once I modded my 800XL to use luma/chroma and plugged the cable in for the first time, I was really impressed by the results. No more composite artifacts blown up by upscaling. You can really up the ante by connecting your machine to a retrotink and OSSC chain. You might have to mod your machine, but, in my case, it was simple to do even though I only have very basic soldering skills.

I don’t have my 800XL fixed for Luma/Chroma yet, but even just using the Yellow Video plug was a huge improvement over the RF Module I was using! And once I get my system fixed/modified for Luma/Chroma, I’ll be able to use the S-Video and have it look even better. How that’s possible, I’m not sure, it still looks pretty good without it. An excellent companion upgrade to the USB Power cable I also bought.

Excellent cable! Having the option of a better looking S-Video picture without internal computer modification is GREAT. I have tried this cable on several TV’s and the picture looked fantastic. It’s truly a step up from the composite output for sure. I repair and restore Atari computers and when they are ready for resale, these cables compliment them. Thanks for carrying this!

Great service and product. This is not my first time buying from them. I purchased years ago and now with this new purchase, I can see their service and products remain top-notch!!
In terms of the product, the quality is great and it came in a nice plastic bag inside of a very nice envelope.

This is a reliable proven product by [EpR] Electrical PCB Reuse. We restore & MOD vintage game | computer units. We did (8) months of testing on our resent Model Builds. Our final choose for AV cables to include with then is 8-Bit Classics. Packaged well and deliveries have been good. Naturally we would like to see faster deliveries as our timelines on build cycles vary and the cables are the key for us to meet deliveries.

Thank you for the review. We build to order all products as they are ordered to keep our costs down as we use the same components for multiple products. We don’t want to have a bunch of inventory that doesn’t sell right away but we do appreciate the feedback. The other thing to consider other orders and holidays. If there is a deadline that is needed for an order, please add it to the notes as we do check those right away and try to meet any needs.

We at EpR purchase them as a key component to our project builds and have been for a year and have never had an issue. The product design it outstanding. Quality material and heavy duty. We tried several other sources and found 8-Bit Classics to be number one.

This cable is of very high quality and is hands down better than the crap cable I previously purchased from Amazon. It was shipped quick and arrived well packed and ready to go.

LOVE that I can simply order one of these, and not have to make one myself – High quality construction, works perfectly (once you figure out the colors don’t necessarily ‘match’ any 1 connection LOL) – now my go-to place for 8-bit accessories!

…but they’re not. I’ve got two Atari 8-bits: a PAL 800 XL (I’m in Ireland/Europe) with the S-Video fix (and Ultimate 1MB, but that’s immaterial here), and my original refurbished and upgraded Atari 800, also PAL; most PAL or NTSC 800s support S-Video (separate luma/chroma) from the factory.
I’d ordered the “5-Pin DIN to Composite AV Cable” some time ago, thinking that would be adequate; everything I’d read online indicated that a signal with separate chroma and luma was better – but not outrageously better – than composite. Using the composite connection, I found the colours disappointing. I got both of my JVC CRTs calibrated by an expert, but the colours still looked muddy. Greens were very dark and indistinct. The Atari Control Picture looked surprisingly OK, with the caveat that the greens were murky and the image overall very dark. My Atari 800XL looked exactly the same, using the same monitor and CRT pairing. I experimented with another monitor, using a dongle to convert the composite signal to HDMI. It looked the same. Kinda rubbish. (Interestingly, the composite signal wasn’t picked up at all by another Dell monitor I have which has a plethora of analogue and digital inputs.)
I ordered the “Atari XL/XE 5-Pin DIN S-Video & Composite AV Cable” to see if the problem really was the composite signal. I’ve just plugged it into the S-Video connection on my JVC CRT and the difference is night and day. The image is bright (almost too bright!), the colours are vivid, and the image is pin-sharp. I am beyond delighted!
I’d share snaps, but my phone doesn’t have the dynamic range to capture the difference between the two signals. Remember, I’m using the same monitor port on the same pair of computers, and sending the signal to two different models of the same CRT. Using composite, the signal looks underwhelming in any combination. Using S-Video, the image is extraordinary. Buy this cable for your Atari 800 or your Atari 800XL with the S-Video fix. You won’t regret it for an instant.

This works perfectly for hooking my 130XE up to a Commodore 1084. Image is nice and clear, as is the audio. It’s also very handy to have S-video on the same cable to give you multiple connectivity options.
